Castro Caldelas Castle
It was a medieval fortress of military character that was built more than 600 years ago (XIV century). From its towers the Lord of the Castle defended and controlled this town and the lands of Caldelas. The coats of arms on the main door remind us who were the Lords: a lion rampant and a castle symbol of the Enríquez, the six roels symbol of the Castro and two wolves symbol of the Osorio (Lords of Lemos) The castle has a large courtyard where the cistern is located, retains a double wall and two towers, the Clock Tower and the Keep. In the 16th century a palatial building was added (in the right wing) with a large hall. Today its rooms house the Municipal Library, Conference Room, Exhibition Halls, Ethnographic Museum and Museum of Letters and Language.
