In the last body there is a cupulita on machones forming six semicircular arches and, crowning the cupola, a pinnacle with a forge cross in each tower-belfry. Castro Caldelas Castle

It was a medieval fortress of military character that was built more than 600 years ago (XIV century). From its towers the Lord of the Castle defended and controlled this town and the lands of Caldelas. The coats of arms on the main door remind us who were the Lords: a lion rampant and a castle symbol of the Enríquez, the six roels symbol of the Castro and two wolves symbol of the Osorio (Lords of Lemos) The castle has a large courtyard where the cistern is located, retains a double wall and two towers, the Clock Tower and the Keep. In the 16th century a palatial building was added (in the right wing) with a large hall. Today its rooms house the Municipal Library, Conference Room, Exhibition Halls, Ethnographic Museum and Museum of Letters and Language.

Pena de Matacás Viewpoint

The last stretch of the river Sil, before joining the Miño, provides us with one of the most appreciated images of the Ribeira Sacra, the Sil Canyons. A beautiful natural landscape formed by abrupt elevations that corset the flowing course of the river along the last 25 kilometers. The water carried by this river is greater than that of the Miño, being famous the phrase: "The Sil carries the water and the Miño the fame". To get to the viewpoint we will do it from the road that goes from Monforte de Lemos to Castro Caldelas (LU903) on the banks of the river Sil, at the height of the pier of Doade we continue towards Abeleda direction Castro Caldelas. In the center of the village (Abeleda) we will find the indications to reach the viewpoint.
