One of Galicia’s oldest fire-worship traditions.

The festival begins at dusk, between light and dark, when hundreds of lit straw torches wind their way through the village streets in complete darkness, creating a magical atmosphere in which only the castle remains lit.

The ritual:

The procession is led by an impressive straw torch over thirty metres tall, a collective symbol guiding the participants to the Sanctuary of Los Remedios.

There, the torches are burned in a huge bonfire, culminating the rite of the purifying fire amidst the sound of bells and shared emotion.

After the ritual, the festivities continue with a tasting of traditional products such as fresh chorizo, wine from the Ribeira Sacra DO and the typical sweet treat bica mantecada, rounding off a unique sensory experience.
