Cristo del Refugio Chapel
Candelario
POI

This hermitage receives the visitor as soon as he enters the town of Candelario and is called the Ermita del Santo Cristo del Refugio, in a large esplanade presided over by the Cruz de término. Inside rests the Christ of the Refuge, of great devotion on the part of the neighbors of the locality. The hermitage is presided over by a baroque altarpiece, with stipites that frame two niches topped with the coats of arms of the order, one of them housing an exceptional carving of San Vicente Ferrer, and the central one the so-called Cristo del Refugio, a small carving of a crucified that is probably from the late sixteenth century. The coats of arms of the altarpiece, with the arms of the Zúñiga family, are placed on the walls of the nave and judging by its size, the altarpiece must have been of great quality and considerable dimensions.
