Caleruega, the essence of Castilla y León in every street.

Caleruega is born for the history between the years 912 and 940 of our Era, it is in these years when Caleruega was born. The name, according to philologists, derives from the Latin "cabis", lime, an abundant product in the area. A group of families from Old Castile (from the north) or Mozarabia (from the south) formed the settlement and established a council.

The first record of Caleruega dates from 1062. On May 10 of that year a notarial record appears in the monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza. In 1094 the name of Caleruega appears in the archives of the monastery of San Salvador de Oña.
