Hermitage of San Sebastián (XIV century, rebuilt in the XXI)

Hermitage of San Sebastián (XIV century, rebuilt in the XXI)

The Ermita de San Antonio, also known as San Sebastian, is one of the most endearing corners of Bubión. After decades in ruins due to a collapse, it was restored in 2006. In the 40's it was the scene of communions, with fritters and chocolate as tradition, the last one being celebrated in 1953. It preserves the images of San Antonio and San Sebastián, although in the past it housed other figures. A few meters away is the curious Artesa de los Moros, a stone with a hollow used, according to tradition, by the Arabs to knead bread, a witness to the historical heritage of the place.
Our Lady of the Rosary Church (16th century)

Our Lady of the Rosary Church (16th century)

The church of the Virgen del Rosario, whitewashed and haughty, overlooks the ravine that surrounds the historic center of Bubión, protecting day after day this enclave alpujarreño. With its back to the Town Hall and facing the emptiness, it keeps stories and legends: like that of the Moorish queen who died of love locked in its tower, or that of the candelabrum that points out hidden treasures. It has been a Muslim castle, a Christian temple, rebuilt after fires, and is today a symbol of the soul of the people. Monument and living memory, it is one of the most magical corners of the Alpujarra.
Museum-Casa Alpujarreña (15th century)

Museum-Casa Alpujarreña (15th century)

The Casa Museo Alpujarreña, in Bubión, preserves intact the essence of the traditional houses of the region. With stone walls and launa roof, it shows how the Alpujarreños used to live in the past. Originally home to a family dedicated to agriculture and livestock, it was restored and converted into a museum. Its rooms faithfully reproduce a period house: kitchen with fireplace, living room with rustic furniture and bedroom with wool blankets. A valuable collection of traditional utensils reflects the rural way of life in the Alpujarra over the centuries.

Historic district

The streets of Bubión are entangled and climb between white houses, following the whim of the terrain. Its irregular and cobbled layout has earned it the distinction of Historic-Artistic Site. Every corner is embellished with flowery balconies and Mudejar architecture, still alive after centuries. The curious "terraos" collect the winter snow, and the chimneys, like stone watchtowers, smoke over flat roofs. Divided into two levels, in the lower part are the Town Hall and the Alpujarreño Museum, epicenters of the cultural soul of this jewel of the Alpujarra.
