Tribute to Peret Blanc
Pere Sala y Solé (1917-1993) was considered the last musician without solfa in the country. His music transmitted the life and customs of the people of the Catalan-French Pyrenees. He will be remembered as a great virtuoso of the music of oral transmission. With his instrument on his back and going on foot through villages, hermitages or farmhouses, these musicians without solfa were the entertainers of major festivals, small festivals, rose gardens, gatherings, weddings and even pig slaughters. Their repertoire was a mixture of songs learned by tradition from the older ones and other more modern ones that they memorized from the dance orchestras or from the nearest gramophone and radio. In the garden of his old house we can find a monument in his memory.
