Parish Church of San Pedro
Parish Church of San Pedro The church of San Pedro de Ansó was built in the second half of the 16th century. Its origin is well documented. Several masters participated in its construction, among them Esteban de Olariaga, Ochea and Bartolomé de Hermosa. From the beginning, the superb volume of the building is striking. It has a Latin cross plan with a single nave with a polygonal chancel and a choir elevated at the base. The bell tower is also located here, with a rectangular floor plan and great simplicity. The monumental access doorway to the temple is protected by a vaulted portico with starred ribbing, which shows a similar scheme to the one that appears in the tomb of Bishop Baguer of the cathedral of Jaca. The interior of the temple has a pronounced vertical development. The vaulting system is of star-shaped ribbed vaulting, with complex designs, whose ribs start from a classic entablature that runs throughout the interior of the church. Along with the carvings of the four evangelists located in the pillars of the transept and those arranged in the presbytery, the baroque altarpiece of the late seventeenth century deserves attention. It has a polygonal floor plan and three streets separated by Solomonic columns. The central one is presided by the image of San Pedro in chair, and the lateral ones by the carvings of San Juan Bautista and San Pablo. Along with this work there are other valuable pieces such as the four Romanesque altarpieces that are located in the arms of the transept and in the body of the nave. The one dedicated to Santo Domingo de Guzmán is a painting, while the other three are sculptures (Nuestra Señora del Rosario, San Sebastián and San Francisco de Asís). They were made by Agustín Jalón in the 17th century.
