Easter
Ciudad Real, Castilla - La Mancha
Passion Week is lived intensely every spring in Villanueva de los Infantes. Apart from the cultural value and artistic beauty of this celebration, devotion and tradition flourish throughout the town. The religious events begin on Palm Sunday morning with mass and the blessing of the palms, and continue that same afternoon with the first procession of the year, that of the Brotherhood of the Palms, popularly known as "el Borriquillo". It is followed by the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús en Pie, with its traditional Via-Crucis on the night of Holy Wednesday. With the last lights of Holy Thursday afternoon, the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Vera-Cruz begins its journey, in one of the most beautiful images of Holy Week in Infante. Good Friday begins with the procession of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth, characterized by the two emotional encounters between the steps of its titular image with that of Mary Magdalene and Our Lady of Solitude, respectively. In the afternoon it is the turn of the Very Illustrious and Royal Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Jamila, which solemnly parades through the streets of Infantes. Good Friday closes with the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Solitude and Holy Sepulchre, which puts on the shoulders of the bearers of the Holy Burial of Christ to the sound of bugles and drums. The Procession of the Resurrected Jesus, in which all the brotherhoods participate, brings the Holy Week of Villanueva de los Infantes to a close.
