Portal del Carmen (EN)
The Carmen Gate is located across from Camino de las Monjas. It is the second remaining tower of the wall that once surrounded the medieval town. The entrance features a semicircular arch above which the town’s coat of arms has been restored: the bars of Aragon and Valencia, the bramble bush (“Rubus Idoeus”), a fortified town castle, and the royal crown of Peter IV “the Ceremonious.”

The entrance is a semicircular arch above which the town’s coat of arms has been restored: the bars of Aragon and Valencia, the bramble—"Rubus Idoeus"—a fortified town castle, and the royal crown of Peter IV “the Ceremonious.”
On either side of the coat of arms are two arrowslits, and the upper section lacks the barbican seen on the other gate. In the 20th century, José Gonzalvo placed a wrought-iron owl atop one of the battlements to the delight of visitors.
It has also undergone several renovations. Inside is a Baroque chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Above the chapel stands a niche with an image of Saint Joseph.
