Villanueva de los Infantes receives the most important documentary legacy on Francisco de Quevedo

The Villanueva de los Infantes City Council has officially received the collection belonging to the now-defunct Francisco de Quevedo Foundation during a ceremony in which Mayor Carmen María Montalbán and the Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Francisco Javier Peinado, accepted the items from the Foundation’s former president, José Luís Rivas.

The donation includes more than 670 bibliographic items, including books, articles, magazines, and other specialized documents on the life and work of Francisco de Quevedo. Among the most notable items is a copy of *Juguetes de la Niñez* from 1634, as well as a manuscript of *Los Sueños* which, according to a study by researcher Diana Eguía, contains three dreams belonging to the manuscript tradition and versions free from Inquisitorial censorship, and thus closer to the author’s original.

Additionally, approximately 500 documents from Francisco de Quevedo’s family archive have been donated, including the writer’s annotations and signatures. These documents complete the author’s family archive, alongside approximately 500 other documents that the Francisco de Quevedo Foundation had previously bequeathed to the Villanueva de los Infantes City Council and which belonged to the writer’s descendants.

The donation also includes important works of art related to Quevedo, notably etchings by Salvador Dalí and a portrait of Quevedo by Cipriana Álvarez de Machado, as well as an extensive collection of documentaries, stamps, comics, and other informational materials.

Of particular significance is the addition of more than 220 works of political cartoons about Quevedo created by some of the most important national and international cartoonists, including Gallego & Rey, Forges, and Peridis.

With this significant addition to its cultural heritage, Villanueva de los Infantes now boasts the most comprehensive existing documentary archive on Francisco de Quevedo, establishing itself as one of the leading national centers for the study, preservation, and dissemination of the legacy of the celebrated Golden Age writer.
