Pampaneira continues to establish itself as one of the leading cultural and tourist destinations in the Alpujarra following the recognition granted by the Regional Government of Andalusia to the Sulayr Festival: Music in the Tinaos, which has been officially designated an Event of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

This designation represents a significant boost to the town’s visibility and recognizes the value of a cultural project that has placed Pampaneira on the map of Andalusia’s most unique cultural offerings, bringing together music, heritage, landscape, and community participation.

Since its inception, the Sulayr Festival has championed a different way of experiencing culture, using the tinaos, streets, threshing floors, and various spaces throughout the village as open stages for contemporary creation and as venues for encounters between artists, residents, and visitors.

The mayor of Pampaneira, Ángel Pérez, hailed this recognition as “great news for the entire town and for the Alpujarra.”

“This recognition demonstrates that even a small municipality can promote cultural projects with their own identity, capable of generating tourist interest, boosting the local economy, and projecting a modern and creative image of Pampaneira.”

The mayor also highlighted the festival’s social and regional impact:

“The Sulayr Festival represents a way of understanding culture connected to our heritage, our traditions, and our landscape. It has made Pampaneira, during those days, a space for coexistence, creativity, and cultural exchange that is unique in Andalusia.”

The designation as an Event of Tourist Interest in Andalusia recognizes not only the festival’s artistic quality but also its ability to foster a model of sustainable cultural tourism linked to the rural environment and the surroundings of the Sierra Nevada National Park.

With this recognition, Pampaneira continues to reinforce its commitment to high-quality cultural tourism, rooted in the authenticity of the region, the heritage of the Alpujarra, and experiences that connect culture, nature, and community.
