The best spots for observing this phenomenon from Morella will be announced soon

Morella has an astronomical observatory located in Torremiró, from which visitors can gaze at the sky surrounded by nature

The city of Morella is preparing to welcome astronomy enthusiasts on August 12 to enjoy the total solar eclipse that will take place. During this week, the sun’s path will be very similar to that on the day of this astronomical phenomenon, making April 29 and 30 ideal for selecting a viewing location and checking for obstacles that might hinder visibility. This information is also available on the website that the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities has set up for the trio of eclipses that will be visible from the Iberian Peninsula in 2026, 2027, and 2028 (https://trioeclipses.es/). As for this year’s eclipse, in Morella it will begin at 7:43 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, and end at 9:09 p.m. The peak of the eclipse will occur at 8:38 p.m., as stated on the Ministry’s website. Accordingly, the city is also coordinating with municipal services to ensure it can accommodate the expected number of visitors on this day.

In addition to this phenomenon, Morella is an ideal place from which to gaze at the night sky. It features an astronomical observatory located at the Torremiró rest area on Highway N-232. This is a privileged location, free from light pollution, offering unbeatable conditions for observing the night sky. A high-quality telescope allows visitors to see the stars up close, as well as Saturn’s rings, the craters of the Moon, meteor showers, and the “Tears of Saint Lawrence,” among other celestial features. Guided tours are available year-round; the observatory is managed by the local association Astromorella, and inquiries can be made directly at the Morella tourist office.
