The Villanueva de los Infantes City Council has announced that María Rosa Villar Bógalo will deliver the official opening address for the 2026 Cruces y Mayos festival, a celebration deeply rooted in the town.
Born in Madrid and with lifelong ties to Villanueva de los Infantes, where she considers herself an adopted daughter, Mª Rosa Villar holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and a degree in Religious Studies from the University of San Dámaso.
Her connection to Cruces y Mayos is deep, as she actively participates in the Media Arroba folk music group, designs the crosses, and created the festival poster in 2020, in addition to having captured the essence of the festival through photography for years.
A teacher by vocation, she currently works at the Escuelas Pías school in Albacete, where she teaches various art subjects and serves as the Pastoral Coordinator. Her career combines education, art, and social commitment, with her volunteer work and membership in the Piarist Fraternity as a committed layperson also standing out.
An artist at heart—photographer, illustrator, and painter—she views art as a way of seeing and conveying the world.
The City Council highlights her approachability, creativity, and human warmth—qualities that make her an exceptional town crier who will undoubtedly convey the spirit of the Cruces y Mayos with emotion and authenticity.
With this appointment, Villanueva de los Infantes prepares to celebrate a new edition of its most iconic festivals, with a voice that embodies tradition, art, and commitment.
