The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain has launched the new Tourist Traffic Light, an innovative system that provides real-time information on visitor numbers in each municipality in the network.
Available on the official website www.lospueblosmasbonitosdeespana.org, this visual and accessible tool allows users to check the occupancy status of towns and plan their visits responsibly, promoting more balanced and sustainable tourism.
Technology at the service of rural tourism
With this initiative, the Association is pioneering the digital management of tourist flows in rural destinations, combining technology and local information to protect heritage and enhance the visitor experience.
The Tourist Traffic Light uses a three-level system that indicates the occupancy of each municipality:
Green level: optimal conditions for visiting, a peaceful atmosphere and an authentic experience guaranteed.
Yellow level: high influx, it is recommended to plan your visit in advance.
Red level: very high visitor numbers, it is suggested to visit another nearby town until the situation returns to normal.
Local councils and partners update the information from their own management panel, ensuring that the data reflects the situation at each destination in real time.
Live notifications and personalized alerts
The portal's home page includes a space for featured alerts, showing towns with high occupancy, local events, or incidents that may affect your visit.
This allows travelers to check the status of destinations before leaving home and contribute to more balanced mobility between the municipalities in the network.
At a later stage, the system will be integrated into the official app of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España (LPMBE), allowing users to receive personalized alerts and notifications about events, expected visitor numbers, or weather conditions, turning the Traffic Light into a smart and connected tool.
Commitment to sustainability and rural life
The project reinforces the Association's commitment to a model of responsible, sustainable, and quality tourism that protects the natural environment and respects the pace of life of local residents.
The objective is clear: to preserve heritage, avoid overcrowding, and offer an authentic experience in Spain's most emblematic
villages. "With the Tourist Traffic Light, we help travelers enjoy our villages without crowds and residents maintain their usual pace of life. It is a tool that balances tourism development and sustainability," said Francisco Mestre, president of the Association.
A lively, innovative, and connected network
Each village in the network has an updated profile on the website, where visitors can find tourist information, points of interest, festivals, experiences, and now also the status of the Tourist Traffic Light.
The project consolidates Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España as a benchmark in tourism innovation, smart land management, and sustainable promotion of rural areas.
