The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain held its Northern Regional Assembly in Lerma (Burgos) on Saturday, a meeting that brought together representatives from municipalities belonging to the autonomous communities of Castile and León, Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia, La Rioja, and the Basque Country.

This annual meeting was conceived as a space for dialogue, coordination, and shared reflection, where the towns in the northern Spain network pooled their experiences, challenges, and joint strategies to continue promoting quality, sustainability, and innovation in tourism and heritage management.

Beyond the organizational aspects, these assemblies reinforced cohesion between territories, promoting the exchange of information, the creation of synergies, and the dissemination of good practices that consolidate the network's role as a benchmark for rural tourism excellence.

The meeting was attended by the national president of the Association, Francisco Mestre, together with mayors and municipal representatives from across the northern region, as well as the Director General of Tourism for Castile and León, Ángel González Pieras, who wanted to accompany local representatives at this important event for the development of quality rural tourism.

The Assembly was held at 12:30 p.m. at the Ducal Palace/Parador de Lerma, an emblematic setting that served as the backdrop for debate and institutional collaboration.

With this event, the Association reaffirmed its commitment to heritage preservation, institutional cooperation, and sustainable development, pillars that define the most beautiful villages in Spain.

About the Association

The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, which already has 122 unique locations, was born out of the conviction and need to make the wonderful villages that dot the Spanish landscape known to the whole world.

The aim is to promote small, mainly rural municipalities, grouped under the same quality brand, through promotional activities and cultural events both inside and outside Spain.

This network encompasses places of great beauty and personality that exude history and culture in equal measure, villages marked by tradition that travelers can enjoy as they explore their streets and mingle with their inhabitants.

The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain brand is a benchmark of prestige and quality at a national and international level. The initiative is based on the French model Les Plus Beaux Villages de France and is part of the Federation of the Most Beautiful Villages in the World.
