Laguna Negra and Glacial Cirques of Urbión Natural Park (EN)

At Vinuesa, the Laguna Negra and Urbión Glacial Cirques Natural Park offers one of the most breathtaking landscapes on the Iberian Peninsula, where the force of nature and the passage of time have shaped an environment of great beauty and mystery.

Nature:
Laguna Negra and the Urbión Peaks

A glacial landscape where one of Spain’s great rivers originates.

At an altitude of 1,800 meters, Laguna Negra stands as an enclave as imposing as it is enigmatic. Its dark waters, surrounded by dense pine forests and steep rock walls shaped by ancient glaciers, create a unique atmosphere that has fueled legends and tales for centuries.

This area is part of a natural park spanning over 63,000 hectares, where glacial cirques, high-mountain lakes, and peaks form a landscape of great geological and ecological value. The sense of isolation, the silence, and the purity of the surroundings make the visit an intense experience deeply connected to nature.

⛰️

Trails branch off from the lake, allowing you to venture into the heart of the mountain range. As you walk toward the upper glacial lakes, such as Laguna Larga Helada, the landscape opens up until you reach the Picos de Urbión, where the Duero River—one of the peninsula’s major waterways—has its source.

Experiences in the park:

Hiking along marked trails that wind through lakes, forests, and mountain peaks.

Snowshoe trails in winter, which transform the landscape into a completely different scene.

Nature observation, mushroom picking in season, and a visit to the Forest Museum.

Ideal spots for photography and contemplating the landscape.

Each season transforms the park, offering a unique experience: from the intense greens of summer to the snow-covered landscapes of winter, through the colorful spectacle of autumn.
