Calaceite Becomes the Hub of Literature and the Arts with the 19th Fira Litterarum

The Matarraña region is gearing up to host one of the most anticipated cultural events of the spring. On May 12, 16, and 17, 2026, Calaceite will host the opening events of the 19th Fira d’espectacles literaris (Litterarum), an event that masterfully blends literature, the performing arts, and music in an unparalleled historic setting.

This edition stands out for being free of charge and for a program designed to invite visitors to immerse themselves in the cultural richness of our region and its ties to other Mediterranean regions.

Highlights of the Program: A Journey Through Literature and the Senses

The program kicks off on Tuesday, May 12, with a creative twist, featuring a T-shirt and pin-making workshop at the C.R.A. Matarranya, followed by the official opening of the “Literature and Songs” exhibition at 7:00 p.m. at the De bat a bat llibres bookstore. This event will be attended by local officials and academics from the University of Alicante, and the day will conclude with a reception.

The weekend will feature the bulk of the activities:

  • Saturday, May 16: The morning will begin with a Literary Vermouth, a gathering for writers from Matarraña and La Franja. In the afternoon, academic rigor and local history will come together in the presentation of ethnographic studies on river navigation and mining. The day will culminate with the concert "Recordant Pino Piras," poetry set to music coming directly from Alghero (Sardinia).

  • Sunday, May 17: The grand finale will feature a family-friendly atmosphere in front of the bookstore with a concert by La Chaminera, who will delight the audience with traditional songs and stories.

Commitment to culture and the region

The organizers and collaborating institutions invite residents and visitors to enjoy these events, which not only celebrate books but also transform reading into a living, shared experience.

Calaceite, with its light and architecture, once again demonstrates its ability to be an exceptional host, offering a cultural program of rigor and technical quality that reinforces its position as a leading tourist and cultural destination in the region.
