Evento: 17 May 2026 · 10:30 — 19:00
Every year, on Galician Literature Day, the medieval town of Vilanova dos Infantes takes a journey back in time. The Raigame Ethnographic Festival brings the trades and skills of early 20th-century Galicia back to life. Its stone-paved streets and squares will be filled with stonemasons carving stone, women spinning yarn in the sun, weavers, "zoqueiros," blacksmiths stoking the fire... and dozens of other artisans keeping alive a memory that would otherwise be lost forever.
Now in its twenty-third edition, the event kicks off this Sunday at 10:30 a.m.—half an hour earlier than usual—to make room for traditional dance performances. These will run non-stop until 7:00 p.m., featuring some twenty groups from across Galicia. The program includes street entertainment, traditional music and dance, exhibitions, storytelling, workshops, and live demonstrations by various artisans, as well as a wide variety of taverns and food stalls where visitors can enjoy Galician cuisine.
Organized by the Celanova City Council and the Xaquín Lorenzo Center for Popular Culture of the Ourense Provincial Council, Raigame is much more than just an event on the calendar: it is the living memory of a town.
