Calaceite, one of the heritage gems of the Matarraña region, is decked out in its finest this weekend to celebrate its traditional Spring Festival. A perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the hospitality of its people, discover its deep-rooted traditions, and enjoy a unique architectural setting.
Below is the official program of events so you don’t miss a beat during these days of celebration:
Friday, May 22
12:30 a.m. – Grand Mobile Disco at the Santa Ana Chapel. The music and dancing kick off with Kintos 2026, featuring the well-known DJs José Miguel Gimeno and Óscar Sánchez.
Saturday, May 23: Pilgrimage to the Santa Ana Chapel and Night of Fire
1:00 p.m. – Solemn Mass in honor of the Saint at the chapel itself, followed by the traditional procession.
Next – Paella Contest, a culinary and social event organized by the Kintos 2026.
Note for participants: Dishes ready for judging must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. The first-place winner will receive a cast-iron paella pan.
6:00 p.m. – Traditional Games in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere. Young and old alike can enjoy fun challenges such as the soapy pole, the rope game, and the entertaining sack races. All this is enlivened by the infectious rhythm of the Charanga Toca Notas.
11:30 p.m. – Night of Fire in Plaza de España. An impressive visual spectacle featuring six fire bulls, accompanied by the groups “La Dragonina i Diablons de Constantí” and “Cabra Petita” from Reus.
12:30 a.m. – Mobile disco at the municipal sports center, featuring DJ Malcvizzy and DJ Alberto Ráfales. A nighttime gathering organized by the Calaceite Youth Association.
Sunday, May 24: Pentecost and Saint Isidore the Farmer
1:00 p.m. – Solemn Mass attended by representatives from the Calaceite City Council, the 2025 Queens, and the Farmers’ Association. Following the ceremony, the traditional distribution of the Blessed Bread will take place.
6:00 p.m. – Folklore and Tradition in the iconic Plaza de España. We will enjoy a performance by the Villanueva Neighborhood Association Folklore Group. As a grand finale, there will be a tasting of traditional pastries and local Calaceite wine, a true delight for the palate courtesy of the Festival Committee and the Farmers’ Association.
Monday, May 25: Day of the Holy Thorn
12:20 p.m. – Solemn Mass in honor of the Holy Thorn.
6:00 p.m. – Solemn Procession through the beautiful streets of the town, accompanied by the solemn melodies of the Gaspar Sanz de Calanda Music Group. At the end of the procession, there will be a veneration of the relic of the Holy Thorn in the Parish Church.
Following this – Closing Concert performed by the same Gaspar Sanz de Calanda Music Association in Plaza de España, bringing the festivities to a close with the finest musical finale.
Information of Interest to Visitors
Safety and Traffic Notices: Residents and visitors are strongly urged not to park vehicles in Plaza de España during the time slots when events are taking place there, especially in anticipation of Saturday’s fireworks display.
