SEIKILOS QUARTET
The Seikilos Quartet was formed in 2011 within the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE). It consists of Iván Görnemann and Pablo Quintanilla (violins), Adrián Vázquez (viola), and Lorenzo Meseguer (cello). The four musicians met at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and later completed their training at prestigious European institutions such as the Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf, the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Hochschule in Leipzig, and the Reina Sofía School of Music.
The group resumed its activities in 2018 with a clear commitment to exploring a wide-ranging repertoire, focusing part of its work on the musical revival of the 20th-century repertoire in Spain. Its name, Seikilos, refers to the famous Greek musical epigram considered the oldest known complete musical piece, symbolizing their interest in the enduring nature of art through time.
The members of the Seikilos Quartet have trained with renowned ensembles such as the Hagen Quartet, the Bennewitz Quartet, the Quiroga Quartet, and the Diotima Quartet, and have been part of the International Chamber Music Institute at the Reina Sofía School, under the tutelage of Günter Pichler. In 2021, they were awarded the “Emerging Group” prize by the Spanish Association of Classical Music Festivals (FestClásica), and in 2024, they received the Leonardo Grant from the BBVA Foundation for their work in the recovery of Spain’s musical heritage.
Among their most notable projects is a monographic album dedicated to the composer Conrado Del Campo, featuring a recording of his String Quartet No. 10 and the Scherzo for the Juan March Foundation’s record label (2025), which was received with great enthusiasm by music critics. Also, as a result of their work for the Leonardo Grant, they released the double CD “Los cuartetos del conservatorio” on the Eudora Records label (2026). They also maintain a busy schedule at the country’s major festivals and concert series.
