tradition, color, and music in one of the province’s most unique celebrations.

During this celebration, eight dancers dressed in colorful traditional costumes parade through the village accompanied by the music of a bagpiper and drummer and the figure of the botarga, a popular character who lends a festive and symbolic touch to the ceremony.

The most solemn moment takes place in the threshing floors near the village, where the Dance of the Cross is performed as part of the Corpus Christi Mass and procession. In this open setting, the tradition is experienced with great intensity, keeping the spirit of centuries past alive.

After the religious services, the celebration moves to the town square, where the dancers, at the request of the crowd, perform various dances from their traditional repertoire. It is here that the festival becomes more intimate, allowing locals and visitors alike to enjoy every movement, the music, and the unique atmosphere that is created.

This tradition, maintained for centuries, is one of the greatest symbols of identity for Valverde de los Arroyos and one of the most authentic examples of Castilian folklore.

Its combination of music, costumes, ritual, and popular participation makes it an unforgettable experience for those who witness it.

Watching the dancers is like immersing oneself in a living tradition that has managed to endure over time, keeping its essence intact.

One of the most vibrant and exciting traditions of the Sierra Norte.
