JOSÉ GONZALVO SCULPTURE MUSEUM (EN)

José Gonzalvo was an artist who was born, lived, and created much of his work in Rubielos de Mora. After training at the fine arts schools in Madrid and Valencia, he acquired a deep understanding of the creation and study of various artistic forms, which allowed him to cultivate an interest in painting, drawing, and, in particular, sculpture.

Monumento a la vaquilla

His artistic output was extensive, allowing us to highlight works such as the Monument to the Farmer and the Miner (Andorra, Teruel), the Bust of Goya (Fuendetodos, Zaragoza), the Monument to the Heifer (Teruel), and the Monument to the Source of the Tagus River (Frías de Albarracín, Teruel), among others.

His great skill was recognized through various awards, such as the Medal of Saint George awarded by the General Council of Aragon and the Cross of Saint George from the Provincial Council of Teruel. Likewise, Gonzalvo’s artistic merit was recognized by the Royal Academies of Fine Arts of Aragon and Valencia, and he was named a member of both.

Museo Gonzalvo

José Gonzalvo always maintained close ties to our town, playing a key role in the preservation and enhancement of Rubielos de Mora’s artistic heritage. For this reason, he decided to refurbish several rooms on the first floor of the Convent of the Discalced Carmelites to display iron models of his most widely recognized monuments and larger-scale sculptures, as well as various paintings by the artist.

His great skill was recognized through various awards, such as the Medal of St. George awarded by the General Council of Aragon and the Cross of St. George from the Provincial Council of Teruel. Likewise, Gonzalvo’s artistic merit was recognized by the Royal Academies of Fine Arts of Aragon and Valencia, and he was named a member of both.
