Nuevo Baztán Founding Festival (EN)
In Nuevo Baztán, the Fundación Festival transforms the historic district every October into a celebration where history, heritage, and community involvement come together in a lively atmosphere.
A weekend during which Nuevo Baztán celebrates its origins with culture, tradition, and a Baroque atmosphere.
This event commemorates the moment when Nuevo Baztán began its journey as an independent parish and, in doing so, solidified its historical identity. That is why, every second Sunday in October, the town revives that founding episode with a program that goes beyond institutional remembrance, transforming the town into a space open to community, culture, and the discovery of its roots.
During these days, the square and the area around the Goyeneche Palace come alive with a large Baroque artisan market, workshops inspired by traditional crafts, music, performances, exhibitions, and activities designed to let residents and visitors experience the town from the inside. It’s not just about attending a festival, but about exploring a historic setting that revives the spirit of its industrial and courtly past.

One of the most special aspects of these festivities is the way they combine education and celebration: dramatized tours, painting contests, dance, puppetry, and family activities turn the founding of Nuevo Baztán into a lively, participatory, and very intimate experience.
Among the most cherished traditions is also the Ruta del Encuentro, an initiative that connects the festival with the local landscape and the memory of the region’s historic trails. Added to this is another deeply popular tradition: the preparation and distribution of San Miguel’s migas, made by the town’s elders and shared with residents and visitors, reinforcing the welcoming and community-oriented spirit that defines the celebration.
Although its program has a strong cultural focus, the truth is that the Fundación Festival has been fully embraced by the town as its own celebration. This blend of heritage, participation, and atmosphere makes the event one of the most anticipated dates on the local calendar and a wonderful opportunity to discover Nuevo Baztán with your family, through a different lens and at a different pace.
