Evaluation Criteria
Summary of the criteria included in our Quality Charter. Every candidate municipality must meet these requirements to obtain the seal of The Most Beautiful Villages of Spain.
Admission Requirements
Mandatory criteria that all municipalities must meet.
- Maximum population of 15,000 inhabitants (up to +10% subject to approval by the Quality Commission). Eliminatory criterion.
- Architectural or natural heritage certified by a document held by the city council.
Urban Quality
Coherence and accessibility of the urban fabric.
- Quality of access to the town
- Homogeneity and scale of the built environment
- Diversity of routes
Architectural quality
Harmony and preservation of the built heritage.
- Harmony of buildings, materials, facades, and roofs
- Uniformity of windows, doors, and colors
- Presence of symbolic decorative elements
Enhancement
Active policy for the improvement and care of heritage.
- Car-free old town (permanent or temporary)
- Organized parking and management of overhead lines
- Renovation of facades, lighting, and public spaces
- Maintenance of green spaces and flowers
Development and promotion
Tourism infrastructure and service offerings.
- Data on tourist numbers
- Accommodation, dining, and activity offerings
- Information center, guided tours, and signage
- Guides or promotional materials
Entertainment
Cultural life and events that bring the town to life.
- Venues for festive events (indoor or outdoor)
- Organization of original, high-quality events
- Permanent or temporary attractions
