Contemporary Art at Sajazarra (EN)

Sajazarra Not only does it preserve one of the most beautiful medieval townscapes in La Rioja, but it has also successfully brought its streets into the present through contemporary art , creating a unique dialogue between stone, history and modern creativity.

For twelve years, Sajazarra became a meeting point for contemporary artists thanks to the Contemporary Art Exhibitions. Years later, the SaMart association launched a new project to revive that spirit and keep alive the relationship between the village and artistic creation.

The Contemporary Art in Sajazarra project was born with a clear intention: to recall the transformation that the arrival of art brought to the village and how it influenced the perspective of those who live there and visit it. It is not just about exhibiting works, but about integrating art into everyday life.

🎨

Today, that legacy continues with the gradual addition of new pieces distributed throughout the town centre. Sculptures, installations and outdoor works appear in squares, streets and unexpected corners, creating a route where every step offers a surprise.

What makes this project special:

The contrast between contemporary art and medieval architecture. The integration of artworks into public spaces. The experience of exploring the town as an open-air gallery.

In ‘Sajazarra’, art is not confined within walls. It is discovered whilst walking, rounding a corner or crossing a square. It is a constant invitation to see the town through new eyes, to reinterpret its spaces and to allow yourself to be surprised.

In Sajazarra, art is not visited: it is encountered.

Strolling through Sajazarra is to journey through centuries of history… and, at the same time, to discover how contemporary art continues to breathe life into every corner of the town.
