PILGRIMAGE TO THE HERMITAGE OF SAN MIGUEL (EN)
The festival of San Miguel takes place in early May (on the first Saturday of the month). Most of the celebration takes place in the countryside, as a pilgrimage to the San Miguel chapel begins early in the morning. The clavarios play a central role on this occasion, as they are responsible for carrying the saint on their shoulders and organizing the day’s activities. After Mass, the residents of Rubielos gather around the chapel for a picnic with friends and family. In the afternoon, traditional children’s games, such as birlos, take place. At dusk, everyone heads back to the village to conclude the festivities with a dance in the schoolyard.
