MEDIEVAL WEEKEND (EN)

In the middle of August, Rubielos dons its medieval attire; the town dresses up to commemorate a time of great prosperity. The Medieval Fair of Rubielos de Mora dates back to the 15th century, when the town was granted permission to hold a grand 20-day fair. Since 1987, this significant historical event has been commemorated by the people of Rubielos. Its streets are adorned in period style, a large medieval market takes place where artisans take center stage, and during those days the streets come alive with theater and dance.

The festival’s history began twenty-nine years ago with the revival of the traditional form of the “toro embolado” (fireball bull): the “toro jubillo.” For the festivities, electric lights are turned off, and we are illuminated solely by the glow of burning torches.

Year after year, this atmosphere of historical reenactment has taken shape, with the market, entertainment shows, theatrical performances, and above all, the spontaneous participation of the residents, who dress in period costumes for these days: beautiful ladies and gentlemen, commoners, rogues, and minstrels stroll through Rubielos during these three days.

At the market, artisans take center stage, and the quality of their work is an indisputable hallmark of the market’s essence. There, many artisans—including weavers, potters, and basket weavers—demonstrate their techniques and showcase all their products. You’ll find a wide variety of artisanal goods and the finest delicacies to delight your palate.
