Twinning with Japan (EN)
Molinaseca It has a curious connection to Japan and the Shikoku 88-Temple Pilgrimage. Two unique works stand out: the first is “The Buddha ofMolinaseca,” or the Kannon carving. This carving, located in the old chapel of San Roque, is carved from a living walnut tree and is the only such carving in the Bierzo region. It is the work of Japanese artist Fumiaki Ogita, who took four months to complete it. The second work is the monolith commemorating the twinning of the Way of St. James and the Japanese Shikoku Henro pilgrimage route, a gift from the Japanese delegation to the town ofMolinaseca.
