The Manuel Ruiz Bernal Foundation, in collaboration with the City Council, has launched the third edition of the “Descubre” Cultural Contest, an initiative that continues to grow and establish itself as a project that brings regions together through culture, art, and heritage.
In this new edition, the contest is expanding the number of prizes and adding a new municipality: Caravaca de la Cruz, which joins Villanueva de los Infantes (Ciudad Real) and Cieza (Murcia), towns that have been involved since the first edition.
The contest stems from a simple yet powerful idea: culture unites. This is emphasized by its founder, Manuel Ruiz Bernal, who notes that “the main objective is to build bridges between communities, between towns that, without realizing it, share sensibilities, values, history, heritage, and a way of understanding life based on closeness and hospitality.”
Since its inception, the contest has strengthened the bond between Villanueva de los Infantes and Cieza. The La Mancha town, considered the cradle of the Golden Age and the final resting place of Quevedo, is a heritage site that captivates visitors and turns every corner into living history, in addition to being recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Towns in Spain. For its part, Cieza stands out for the uniqueness of its Holy Week celebrations, its ancient archaeological sites, the beauty of the river that runs through it, and the open and welcoming nature of its residents.
This year, the inclusion of Caravaca de la Cruz, one of the five holy cities of the world, represents a significant boost for the competition. “Its presence in this contest enriches the project and broadens our cultural horizons,” the organizers emphasize.
For her part, the mayor of Villanueva de los Infantes, Carmen María Montalbán, wished to publicly express her gratitude to Manuel Ruiz Bernal for his involvement in this project, as well as for the warmth and affection he always shows toward the town. “We are proud to have people like him who work with such dedication to highlight our culture and strengthen the bonds that unite us,” she noted.
The Manuel Ruiz Bernal Foundation emphasizes that its purpose is clear: to transform culture, art, and heritage into real drivers of social cohesion, generators of opportunities, and tools for the future.
The contest will be open from May 1 to 31, 2026, at the municipal library in each of the municipalities. During this period, interested individuals may pick up a copy of the newspaper published for the occasion, which contains the contest rules and provides access to the questionnaire they must complete.
Several prizes will be raffled off among all participants from the different municipalities, consisting of a stay for up to 8 people, plus 200 euros.
With this third edition, “Descubre” continues to grow and reaffirm its commitment to culture as a bond between regions and people.
