Briones
Briones is a village in the autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain. It is located in the northwest of the province, on a hill 80 metres high, whose northern slope falls away to the Ebro River at an almost vertical angle.
Briones is a medieval town with many buildings of interest, and has thus been declared a Historic-Artistic Site.
In terms of traditional architecture, most of the buildings are built in ashlar masonry, although there are some half-timbered houses.
The village is built on a hillside. In the upper part the ancient layout of the walls and the castle are visible, with some remains preserved.
The square is very beautiful and overlooked by wonderful historical buildings. The village's medieval origins can be observed in their Gothic pointed windows and niches kept as small shrines by the locals. In keeping with the traditional style of civilian architecture throughout the Rioja Alta, most of the buildings have three floors realised in perfectly carved ashlar stones.
The windows and doorways of the façades framed and many of them sport heraldic coats of arms. Don't forget to look up at the carved wooden dogs of the eaves. There is also some beautiful ironwork to be seen on balconies and windows.
