Castro Caldelas
The village of Castro Caldelas is located in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, in the Orense region, on a hill overlooking the banks of the Edo River.
Since ancient times, the village has been home to beautiful white galleries and emblazoned houses that are testament to its rich medieval past. The Plaza del Prado is the main entrance to the Old Town. Walking through its narrow and cobbled alleys, we can experience its history through the stately houses and the coats of arms that crown their façades. These steep streets, so colourful during spring, lead us to the fortress - the most visible symbol of the history of Castro Caldelas.
The castle was built in the fourteenth century and has three quadrangular towers on its outer wall, with an inner bailey housing a cistern to the rear. The coats of arms at the front entrance remind us who its owners were. The inner wall is topped with battlements, along which runs the parapet walk, connecting with the administrator's house and the Clock Tower.
I would like to invite you to visit Castro Caldelas, a beautiful medieval village located in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra.
