Durro
Durro is located on the Noguera de Tor valley at an altitude of 1,395 meters above sea level, and a little far from the main roads. Etymologically the name comes from the Basque word DURRU and means "far away".
Although it was an independent entity, in 1965 joined the municipality of Vall de Boí. Today, it is a Decentralized Municipal Entity together with the nucleus of Saraís.
Durro maintains its medieval essence, with a cobbled and steep old town. Its houses combine the residential aspect with livestock and agriculture. The solid constructions and the details of the exterior decoration show the prosperity and importance of the village.
It is one of the three villages in the Vall de Boí with an Unesco award. The church and the hermitage were recognized as World Heritage in 2000 and also was declared as Starlight destination due to its excellent qualities for the observation of the sky.
Durro celebrates every summer solstice the festival of fire (so-called Fallas), which is an unique Intangible Heritage.
The Romanesque church of the Nativity (13th century), declared a World Heritage Site, stands out for its monumentality, testimony to the importance of the village of Durro during the Middle Ages. It is remarkable for the proportions of the nave, the bell tower, the sculpted doorway and the portico.
Nearby is the 12th century hermitage of Sant Quirc, a World Heritage Site, from where you can enjoy fantastic views of the valley, enjoy the Starlight sky and from where the lighthouse is lit for the festival of the fallas.
