Monteagudo de las Vicarías
In the very heart of the province of Soria, Monteagudo de las Vicarías stands on the plateau of a small hill or grindstone, surrounded by the remains of what was the wall that held most of the houses in its embrace.
Stroll through the streets of a municipality of no more than 200 inhabitants, crossing the wall via a pointed and crenelated arch that used to be the village's main point of access. Its main square is home to a large church, under the patronage of Nuestra Señora de la Muela, and the medieval castle of the Hurtado de Mendoza, both from the 15th century.
Monteagudo, in conjunction with Aragon, tells of the history of the reconquest, as it was in this beautiful town in 1291 that the marriage between Isabel, daughter of Sancho de Castilla, and King Jaime of Aragon was arranged. Their wedding later took place in the city of Soria.
