Mogrovejo
A Place of Cultural Interest and Historic Site, Mogrovejo houses some of the best-preserved stone and masonry houses with wrought-iron balconies of the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries, among which stands out that of Vicente de Celis with its coat of arms of the Estrada family. The traditional houses are typical of the Liébana region, their upper floor frequently open to the outside and with walls made of interwoven canes covered with mud that delimit a space originally used as a haystack. Some have access to the second floor via a 'patín,' or external staircase, of Asturian influence.
The village has a strong traditional air and its houses seem to have come straight out of a museum or painting, with the Picos de Europa mountain peaks forming a fairy-tale backdrop that seems to rise up from the very roofs of their houses. Set in an idyllic location and surrounded by extraordinary forests of oaks, holly and chestnut trees, it is also the starting point of several very accessible and beautiful walks.
