Carmona
Carmona is a typical traditional Cantabrian village, clearly marked by an economy which prioritises agriculture, livestock and forestry activities over a more conveniently organised urban development.
This town occupies the flat area of the valley of the Quivierda river to form an extraordinarily compact centre, as a result of the peasants' need to use as much of the available land as possible for cultivation.
In this area, a mixed model has been developed over the centuries based on semi-extensive livestock farming (principally of the Tudanca cow), and subsistence agriculture based on rhythms which changed as cultivation methods evolved. This economic model saw traditions passed down from parents to children, with the result that the local values of Cabuérniga culture such as wooden handicrafts still survive.
