Anento
Anento is a small municipality in the south of the province of Zaragoza. With only 105 inhabitants, it is located at the bottom of a valley, 919 metres above sea level. The valley is crowned by limestone seated on clay marl, festooned with different colours depending on the time of year; its rich flora remains in bloom throughout most of the year. Protected at the foot of what remains of its castle, the town is watched over by its Celtiberian tower, in the east of the valley. At the foot of the village, we find its orchard, watered by the continuous, crystalline and pure waters of the Aguallueve spring. The village is well cared for, clean and tidy; the traditional village houses are harmoniously laid out, adorned with the colours of the surrounding landscape, along narrow streets which are markedly medieval in style. Its 12th-century parish church stands out and houses, in addition to various murals, a 15th-century main altarpiece, possibly the largest and best preserved Gothic altarpiece of the ancient Crown of Aragon. The village's inhabitants are hospitable - lovers of nature and their village.
Anento is a delight to visit at any time of the year. Anyone who has been here is sure to tell their friends and return themselves; many charming surprises await those yet to visit.
“
I would like to start by thanking you as fellow neighbour, Mayor, and on behalf of the inhabitants and supporters of Anento, for giving us the chance to be part of this select group of Municipalities, each with their own personality and characteristics which qualify them as among the most beautiful. For us, this represents a recognition of the effort and work that for over 25 years has been carried out by inhabitants and other supporters, headed up by the City Council, to reinvigorate a town that, like many others in the area between the 60s and 80s, was practically abandoned, to the extent of having only one in winter.
Today it continues to be a charming village, which now bustles with life, with much love and care helping it to emerge from loneliness. Nowadays it offers accommodation, restaurants, activities, trails, nature and hospitality not to mention the peace offered by the tranquillity and silence of its setting, interrupted only by the harmonious melody of the local wildlife living in this small but lush valley.
