The Ricote Valley is a large riverside and orchard landscape in the middle basin of the Segura River, in the north of the Region of Murcia. It sits between dry reliefs and steep slopes, with a strong presence of palm trees, fruit trees and irrigated crops that contrast with the more arid tone of the immediate surroundings. It is also known as Valle Morisco (Moorish Valley) because of its Andalusian heritage and the historical footprint of its irrigation systems, waterwheels and traditional villages. From its viewpoints and paths you can appreciate a narrow and elongated valley, furrowed by the Segura, with agricultural terraces, cliffs and white nuclei embedded in the hillside. The interest of the place is in that mixture of humanized landscape and natural relief, very representative of the Vega Media Murciana, and in its value as an itinerary for walking, hiking and observation of the landscape. The area is highlighted in the regional tourist offer and in interpretative routes linked to the Ricote Valley and Cieza, with references to riverside landscapes, waterwheels and traditional architecture. It is a destination especially grateful in winter and spring, when the temperature is milder and the light enhances the orchard; in dates of flowering of the environment of Cieza the set gains color and contrast. It is advisable to visit early in the morning or at sunset, when the lateral light better outlines the profiles of the slopes and the valley retains a more serene atmosphere. If you are looking for landscape photography, the temperate months offer better conditions than summer, due to the intense heat and less comfort for walking.
