El Torreón, also called Pinar del Pinar peak, is the highest peak in the province of Cádiz, with 1,654 meters of altitude, in the Sierra del Pinar, within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. It is not a built viewpoint, but a rocky peak with a geodesic vertex and a 360-degree panoramic view over mountains, valleys and, on clear days, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Atlantic coast. From the summit you can see La Garganta Verde, the profile of the Sierra de las Nieves, the Cadiz countryside and, to the south, the Rock of Gibraltar; on clear days you can also see the north of Africa. The ascent crosses a very marked limestone mountain landscape, with transition from scrubland and pine forests to the higher levels of the sierra, in an environment known for its strong ecological value. Its interest is not only panoramic: it is part of one of the most emblematic natural areas of Andalusia and is frequently mentioned in guides and hiking routes for being the "roof of Cadiz". The visit gains a lot with good visibility, preferably in autumn, winter or spring, when the air is usually cleaner and the contrast of the relief is greater. The experience requires being attentive to the weather and access regulations, because the summit is located in a protected area and the entire route is not a simple urban excursion. The end of the route rests on rock and the terrain can be exposed in some sections.
