Teatro Municipal

The Municipal Theater of Almagro is a historical theater of municipal ownership and a scenic space for cultural and tourist use located in San Agustín Street, in Almagro (Ciudad Real), within the historic center of the town. It is an "Italian style" theater, used for theatrical exhibition, dance, concerts and cultural activities. Its construction is located in the 19th century, dating from the middle of that century according to Turismo Ciudad Real, and several sources link it to the bourgeois taste for the shows of representation typical of that time. The source of Tourism Ciudad Real indicates as architect Cirilo Vara and adds that it was rehabilitated in the XX century by Miguel Fisac. The building has a horseshoe-shaped floor plan, designed to favor acoustics and visibility, and is organized in stalls, boxes and henhouse. It is also known to be related to the programming of the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival, one of the main cultural landmarks of the city. In informative and local reference sources it is also indicated that the theater occupies the site of the old houses of Doña Guiomar Manrique de Lara, Marquise consort of Santa Cruz, although this information is secondary to its current heritage and scenic value.
