Description

The Majaceite River Trail is a short and linear route that runs along the banks of the Majaceite River in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, within the municipality of Grazalema, in the hamlet of Benamahoma, Cadiz. Its usual route links Benamahoma and El Bosque, with a length of about 5 to 5.3 km and low or medium difficulty depending on the source consulted; it is a very popular walk because of its accessibility and its route almost always gently downhill or flat along the riverbed. The most valuable feature of the itinerary is the gallery forest landscape, very humid and shady, with riverside vegetation such as poplars, willows, oleanders and strawberry trees, as well as walkways, bridges and remains linked to the traditional use of water. In the surroundings there are mills, fulling mills, dams, an old light factory and the source of the Majaceite, which adds ethnographic interest to the visit. The trail is interesting for its combination of nature, permanent water and rural heritage, in an emblematic enclave of the Sierra de Grazalema. It is one of the most popular routes in the park, recommended for quiet walks and to observe the fauna associated with the river, with the otter as an emblematic species cited by the local tourist office. Its value lies both in its scenic quality and in the historical reading of the traditional use of the river.
