La Garganta Verde Trail

Description
The Green Gorge Trail is a short hiking route located in Zahara, in the province of Cadiz, within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. It runs through the Garganta Verde, a canyon carved by the erosive action of the Bocaleones stream, with very vertical walls and a landscape of strong contrast between rock, vegetation and shady areas. The route is associated with an enclave of great geomorphological and scenic interest, and its access is regulated by administrative authorization. The highlight of the route is the view of the narrow canyon and the arrival at the Cueva de la Ermita or Ermita de la Garganta, a large cavity of karst origin that marks the end of the trail for recreational use. During the walk you can observe limestone cliffs, well-preserved Mediterranean vegetation and, frequently, griffon vultures, a species closely linked to these rocky walls. Its interest is not only scenic: it is part of one of the most valuable natural areas of the Cadiz mountains for its biodiversity and environmental protection. Several sources describe it as one of the most emblematic landscapes of the province of Cadiz and an enclave of special relevance for birds of prey and the interpretation of the limestone relief. The route is usually listed as a route of high or medium-high difficulty due to the unevenness and the steepness of the terrain, although its length is short. It is a very appreciated resource by demanding visitors due to the intensity of the landscape in a short distance and the combination of geology, fauna and vegetation in the same itinerary.
