The El Torreón and El Pinsapar Trail is a hiking route located in the Sierra del Pinar, within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia. This area is recognized as one of the wettest and most valuable in the region, with the highest rainfall on the Iberian Peninsula. The route combines the ascent to Pico El Torreón—which, at 1,654 meters, is the highest peak in the province of Cádiz—with a walk through the pinsapar, a relict forest of Spanish fir (Abies pinsapo), a unique fir species with a very limited distribution in the southern part of the peninsula. From the summit of El Torreón, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Grazalema pinsapo forest and the mountainous landscape of the Sierra. The trail is protected, and access is regulated due to the botanical richness of the Sierra de Grazalema Biosphere Reserve, designated by UNESCO. This route is well-known in hiking guides for connecting one of the peninsula’s most unique forests with the highest peak in Cádiz, standing out for its ecological and geological value. The best time to visit is from October to May, when conditions are most favorable and access is unrestricted. From June through October, access is permitted only under very restricted conditions; pets are not allowed, and prior permission must be obtained in advance.
