Description

The Bailon River Trail is a hiking route in the municipality of Zuheros, in the province of Cordoba, integrated in the Natural Park of the Sierras Subbeticas. It is a linear itinerary, usually starting in the town of Zuheros, which follows the bed and the Bailon riverbed through a landscape of limestone mountains and karst relief, very characteristic of this protected area. The main interest of the route is in the Bailon River Canyon, a narrow valley carved by erosion on limestone-dolomitic materials, with steep rock walls, steps along the riverbed, natural viewpoints and stretches of well-preserved oak forest. Along the route there are landmarks such as the Charco Hondo Canyon Viewpoint and the Fuente de la Fuenfría, and the trail allows us to appreciate the transition between the white quarter of Zuheros and an increasingly rugged and natural environment. It is a highly valued resource for its landscape, for the geological quality of the environment and for being part of one of the best known areas of the Sierras Subbéticas, a territory with strong recognition as an area of natural and heritage interest. Its presence in hiking guides also confirms its relevance as an emblematic route for visitors seeking nature, geology and views over one of the most unique canyons in the region.
