Description

The hermitage or sanctuary of the Virgen de las Lindes is a small religious and scenic resource located in Carmona, in the municipality of Cabuérniga, Cantabria. It is located in the Monte de Carmona, in the upper part of the itinerary that ascends from the Barrio de San Pedro, at almost 600 m altitude, in a hillside and mid-mountain environment linked to the Nansa Valley and the Saja Reserve. The interest of the place is not only devotional: from the hermitage there are wide views over Carmona and its surroundings, and the access allows you to walk through a landscape of oak, hazelnut, arraclán and high pastures. The usual route to the hermitage is of medium difficulty, about 8.3 to 8.34 km, with a steep slope, along tracks and country roads. Carmona has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site, and the sanctuary is part of the self-guided and hiking routes promoted to get to know the mountain and the traditional center of the town. The Virgen de las Lindes is the patron saint of the people of Carmona and her sanctuary plays an important role in local life. In addition, a pilgrimage and festive mass is held around the sanctuary on the Saturday following San Roque, which reinforces its cultural and community value within the traditional calendar of Carmona.
