Description

The Deva River is a natural river course associated with the basin of the same name and the Natura 2000 Network of Cantabria. In this area, the Deva River SCI also includes sections of other rivers and streams in the basin, and stands out for its high landscape value, its well-represented gallery forests and the presence of habitats and fauna of community interest. The Deva river basin is one of the most important in western Cantabria and has a recognized environmental quality. In the surroundings of Mogrovejo, the resource is understood as a fluvial mountain landscape, linked to a valley of strong natural and visual interest. Although the data sheet consulted does not provide a specific measurement of the stretch at this point, it does place the river within a broad system that vertebrates the territory of Liébana and connects riverside areas, meadows and mountain slopes. For the visitor, the main attraction is in the reading of the landscape: flowing water, riverside vegetation and an environment of strong contrast between the riverbed and the nearby relief. Its interest is not only recreational, but also ecological and territorial. The area has been included in the Natura 2000 Network since 2004 and is mentioned as a salmon basin, which reinforces its environmental relevance. In local tourist guides and resources it is also described as a river with accessible stretches for walks and outdoor activities, although the most solid information comes from its protection status and the natural values associated with the SCI.
