Description

The Linza Refuge is a mountain refuge located in the valley of Ansó, within the Natural Park of the Western Valleys, in the municipality of Ansó, Huesca. It is located in a high Pyrenean mountain environment, in a place known as Plano de la Casa, with access by road from Ansó. According to the sources consulted, it was built in 1989 by the Town Council of Ansó and today it is still under municipal ownership. More than a simple lodging, it functions as a support point to get to know one of the most open and spectacular areas of the valley: mountain meadows, grassy slopes and views of the peaks of the western Pyrenees. The refuge's website also lists it as a base for excursions, ascents and winter activities, and several references describe it as a regular place for cross-country skiing and family mountain activities. What interests the visitor is its combination of landscape, accessibility and hiking use. It allows entering a protected area of great natural value without losing the character of a mountain refuge, and for this reason it is associated with routes and outings in the surroundings of Linza and Zuriza. Its local relevance is twofold: on the one hand, it is part of the offer of public use of the Western Valleys Natural Park; on the other hand, it is linked to the recent history of the valley as a facility promoted by the town council of Ansó.

How to get there

By car: from Ansó take the local road to Zuriza/Linza; access is by paved road to the refuge itself, located about 20 km from the village.. Parking: there is a parking area next to the refuge; the sources consulted indicate ample and free parking, although the capacity may vary depending on the number of people. Trail: it is not necessary to reach the refuge from the usual access point; if used as a route base, the excursions from here are already mountain itineraries. Footwear: mountain shoes or hiking shoes with grippy soles, even for moving around in the immediate environment. Best season: from June to October, for more stable conditions and better visibility. Warnings: in winter there may be snow, ice and sudden weather changes; it is advisable to check the road conditions and the weather before going up.[9
