Description

The Rambla de Cantavieja is a natural place of fluvial and geomorphological character located in the term of Mirambel, in the region of the Maestrazgo of Teruel. It is a seasonal watercourse or wadi, linked to a landscape of slopes, ravines and rock shaped by erosion, in the surroundings of the mountain of San Cristóbal and in the vicinity of the riverbed that flows into the Bergantes river. The most interesting thing for the visitor is the reading of the landscape: the water lace, the singular geological forms and the environment of half mountain typical of the Maestrazgo, with paths that allow to cross the environment without losing sight of the historical hamlet of Mirambel. The reference to the access by trails of the Maestrazgo Cultural Park places this place within a territory especially associated with hiking and natural and cultural heritage. Its relevance is not in large dimensions, but in the scenic and didactic value of the whole, very representative of the relief of the mountains of Teruel. In addition, the proximity to a village declared one of the most unique of Aragon reinforces its interest as a complement to visit for those seeking nature, heritage and landscape in the same route.

How to get there

By car: from Mirambel, take the A-226 towards Cantavieja and look for the nearest rural access to the surroundings of the wadi according to the observation point; the riverbed passes a short distance from the village. Parking: the most practical way is to leave the car in the town of Mirambel and continue on foot; there is no specific parking for the wadi. Trail: null Footwear: hiking shoes or soles with good grip, especially if the riverbed is wet or with pebbles. Best time: spring and autumn; also after recent rains if you want to see some runoff. Warnings: torrential riverbed with flash floods, uneven ground and possible mud; avoid entering the wadi when it is stormy or rainy.
