Description
El Quintanarejo is a small hamlet of Vinuesa, in the pine forest region of Soria, located in an environment of mountain and pine reforestation that connects with several local places mentioned by the municipality, such as Charco de las Peñas, El Urcajón or Hoya Zarzosa. In the town center is preserved the hermitage of Santa Catalina, a rectangular building, hipped roof, voussoir door and belfry with bell, a simple example of rural religious architecture. The interest for the visitor is not so much in a great monument as in the whole: a small settlement, closely linked to the forest landscape, with quiet streets and a hermitage that acts as a visual and patrimonial landmark. The municipal reference to anthropoid burials in the surroundings and to traditional architecture reinforces the historical value of the place, even if there is no great museumization. It is a particularly suitable visit for those who visit Vinuesa and its surroundings in terms of minor heritage and landscape. The available documentation underlines its character as a quiet and rural destination, with a stable population and vacationers, surrounded by pine forests. The best light usually comes early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the farmhouse and the chapel stand out against the green surroundings; in autumn and winter the landscape gains contrast, while in summer the pine forest offers more of a sense of shelter.
