Punta del Boquerón is a sandy coastal arrow located at the southern end of San Fernando, in front of the Sancti Petri channel and closing the Camposoto beach to the south. It is a landscape of mobile dunes and beaches shaped by the wind and waves, with a very exposed coastline and a clear transition between dry sand, intertidal zone and nearby marshes. Its geological and landscape interest lies in its narrow and elongated shape, born by sedimentary accumulation in a dynamic Atlantic environment. From the route you can see the sandy bar, the beach of the Castle, the pipe of Sancti Petri and, depending on the tide and visibility, the visual relationship with the castle of Sancti Petri and the ancient defenses of the area. It is also a good place to recognize dune vegetation and birds linked to the coast, especially in quiet passages and in off-peak hours. The presence of military remains reinforces its historical interest, combining natural landscape and defensive use of the coast. The Junta de Andalucía declared it a Natural Monument in 2003, within an area of about 74 hectares, and the environment is described in official tourist guides as a simple coastal path. The visit works especially well at low or medium tide, when the beach and the sandy bar are better appreciated, and in spring, autumn and early hours of the day for the light and less exposure to heat and wind. It is advisable to check the tide before you go, because the appearance of the pass by the sea changes a lot depending on the state of the Atlantic.
